Bulk Storage Drive-In Racking Project – Vinatech Australia
Problem
For food and beverage distribution warehouses handling large volumes of palletised goods, storage density is an important consideration. Conventional racking layouts can require multiple forklift aisles, reducing the amount of floor space available for pallet storage.
For this 3,000 m² distribution warehouse, the customer needed to maximise pallet storage capacity while maintaining practical forklift access and an efficient storage process.
The customer needed to:
- Increase pallet storage density within the existing warehouse
- Reduce the amount of space allocated to access aisles
- Accommodate high-volume inventory and bulk storage
- Store products in larger batches and dedicated storage lanes
- Support LIFO or controlled stock rotation requirements
- Maintain straightforward forklift-based operations
The objective was to make better use of the available warehouse footprint while creating a high-density storage environment suitable for food and beverage distribution.
Solution
Vinatech implemented a Drive-in Pallet Racking System designed for high-density pallet storage and bulk inventory.
Unlike conventional Selective Racking, Drive-in Racking allows forklifts to enter the storage lanes directly, enabling pallets to be stored multiple positions deep. This reduces the need for separate access aisles and allows a greater proportion of the warehouse footprint to be used for pallet storage.
For the 3,000 m² food and beverage distribution warehouse, the system was configured to support high-volume inventory and batch storage while maintaining practical forklift access.
The solution includes:
- Drive-in pallet racking configuration
- High-density, deep-lane pallet storage
- Reduced conventional aisle requirements
- Dedicated storage lanes for high-volume products
- Direct forklift access into racking lanes
- Support for LIFO-oriented storage
- Efficient use of available warehouse floor space
- Configuration suited to bulk and batch storage
The system provides a practical storage solution for inventory profiles where high storage density and batch consolidation are more important than immediate access to every individual pallet.
Outcome
The completed Drive-in Racking System provides the distribution warehouse with a higher-density approach to pallet storage, allowing the available 3,000 m² footprint to be used more efficiently.
The project delivered:
- High-density pallet storage across 3,000 m²
- Greater utilisation of available floor space
- Reduced space required for conventional forklift aisles
- More compact storage of high-volume inventory
- Dedicated lanes for bulk and batch storage
- Efficient forklift access within storage lanes
- Support for LIFO-oriented inventory management
- A practical storage solution for food and beverage distribution
By storing pallets several positions deep within dedicated lanes, the system reduces the amount of warehouse space required for access while increasing the concentration of inventory within each storage block.
The solution is particularly suited to high-volume SKUs and inventory that can be managed through batch storage or controlled stock rotation, providing a straightforward forklift-based operating model without requiring additional warehouse automation.
Testimonial
The Drive-in Racking system has helped us make better use of our warehouse space while providing dedicated storage lanes for high-volume products. The system is straightforward for our forklift operators and well suited to our distribution requirements.
