Distribution Centre VNA Racking Project – Vinatech Australia
Problem
For distribution centres managing large volumes of palletised goods and multiple SKUs, maximising storage capacity while maintaining direct access to individual pallets can be challenging.
For this approximately 12,000 m² distribution centre, the customer needed to increase pallet storage capacity without expanding the existing warehouse footprint. The storage layout also needed to support a high number of SKUs while maintaining direct access to individual pallet positions.
The customer needed to:
- Maximise use of available vertical warehouse space
- Increase pallet storage capacity
- Maintain direct access to individual pallets
- Reduce aisle width and unused floor area
- Accommodate a high number of SKUs
- Improve overall warehouse layout efficiency
The objective was to make better use of both the available warehouse height and floor area while maintaining practical access to stored inventory.
Solution
Vinatech implemented a VNA Racking System (Very Narrow Aisle) designed for high-bay, high-density pallet storage.
The system uses narrow operating aisles and high-bay racking to increase pallet positions while maintaining direct access to individual pallets. By reducing the width of conventional forklift aisles, more of the available warehouse footprint can be dedicated to storage.
For the approximately 12,000 m² distribution centre, the VNA configuration was designed to maximise vertical storage and improve the efficiency of the overall warehouse layout.
The solution includes:
- VNA pallet racking configuration
- High-bay vertical storage
- Very narrow operating aisles
- Direct access to individual pallet positions
- Increased pallet storage capacity
- Improved utilisation of warehouse height
- Reduced floor space allocated to aisles
- Configuration suitable for high-SKU inventory
The system provides a practical balance between storage density and individual pallet accessibility, making it suitable for distribution operations managing a broad range of SKUs.
Outcome
The completed VNA Racking System provides the distribution centre with a high-density storage configuration across approximately 12,000 m², making greater use of the available vertical and floor space.
The project delivered:
- High-bay pallet storage across approximately 12,000 m²
- Increased utilisation of vertical warehouse space
- Higher pallet storage density
- Direct access to individual pallet positions
- Reduced aisle width compared with conventional layouts
- More efficient use of available floor area
- Improved suitability for high-SKU inventory
- A more space-efficient warehouse layout
By combining high-bay racking with very narrow aisles, the system allows more storage positions to be accommodated within the existing warehouse footprint without sacrificing direct access to individual pallets.
The VNA configuration is particularly suitable for distribution centres where a high number of SKUs must be stored while maintaining individual pallet accessibility and efficient use of warehouse space.
Testimonial
“The VNA Racking system has helped us make better use of the available warehouse height and floor space while maintaining direct access to individual pallet positions. The layout provides a practical solution for managing our high-SKU inventory.”
